In an ideal world, your apartment should reflect your personality. On-trend design schemes such as Danish pastels, Regencycore, and cottagecore can give your space a much-needed upgrade, but figuring out how to incorporate your favorite design vibe into a limited square footage can be tricky, especially without breaking the bank.

Your apartment may not be huge, but with a little strategy, you can turn it into a space you’ll love to come back to. Even better? You don’t have to spend a ton of money to make it happen.

Here’s how to find and buy your favorite aesthetic, according to interior designers.

Aesthetics of Danish pastels

If a well-lit room filled with minimalist furniture and dreamy pastel colorways would make you pause in your TikTok scroll, Danish pastels – a youthful Scandinavian-inspired design scheme popularized on social media recently – are for you. . “After everything has felt heavy in recent years, Danish pastels bring a sense of happiness and hope,” says David Quarles, interior designer and design influencer based in Memphis, Tennessee.

Because this aesthetic has such a light and airy feel, it naturally suits small spaces. Quarles says darker schemes can be tricky to pull off because they tend to make already cramped areas look smaller. When working with a smaller footprint like an apartment, it’s best to incorporate the vibe of Danish pastels into the pieces you already need, then sprinkle some fun decor throughout your space.

Quarles suggests keeping your walls neutral, ideally white or cream, and incorporating bits of mint green, dusty pink, lavender and light yellow throughout. Aim for soft lines in your furniture – think a curved sofa, a curled swing chair or an upholstered headboard in your bedroom.

Cream walls and plush furniture set the stage for more playful decor and textiles — and if you’re on a tight budget, Quarles says these little details are the perfect way to incorporate a little Danish pastel joy into your apartment. Pastels, of course, play a role, but so do playful shapes and textures like a checkerboard-print rug, a wavy mirror or picture frame, or a curvaceous vase.

Playing with the lighting is also another option; for example, hanging a disco ball by your window to catch the light or adding a soft pastel bulb to your lamp can also help you embrace the aesthetic. “You can also implement pastel neon signs with your favorite slogan,” says Quarles. “I have one that says ‘It was just a dream’.”

Regencycore aesthetic

Want to feel like royalty? An on-trend take on the “great millennial” style and the perfect blend of maximalism and elegance, Regencycore has exploded in popularity over the past year, likely as a result of the Netflix series. Bridgerton. “As the living room grows in popularity, so does the desire to have a Regencycore-inspired space,” says Anna Franklin, interior designer and founder of Stone House Collective, a design firm that works in the Wisconsin and Colorado.

For Regencycore to work in an apartment, Franklin suggests replacing neutral tones with items richer in color and design, such as richly-toned floral bedding or a luxurious velvet chair. Keep your furniture traditional, ideally in a dark stained wood finish, to embrace the sophisticated look.

Adding items to the floor takes up space, so think vertically: try replacing your blinds with floor-to-ceiling drapes in a dark color and incorporating decorative elements to your walls, from a gold mirror to opulent picture frames. .

Franklin’s favorite way to bring Regencycore to life is with wallpaper adorned with a small repeating pattern, a staple of 19th century design and a statement that doesn’t take up valuable space. Molly Damon, another Colorado-based interior designer from Stone House Collective, says removable wallpaper is a great way to achieve a stately look in a rental. And if you’re on a budget, she suggests raiding your grandma’s or a flea market for china or ginger jars, which you can display on a shelf.

Cottagecore aesthetic

A trendier take on traditional farmhouse design, cottagecore embodies the vibes of a rural country cottage design aesthetic, says Damon. Although the aesthetic has been gaining popularity on social media lately, cottagecore has gained particular popularity in the design industry over the past couple of years.

“As people started spending more time in their homes than ever before, they wanted it to feel cozy, comfortable and beautiful while bringing the feeling of nature inside that they missed when going outside,” says Damon. And the release of Taylor Swift Folklore the album probably didn’t hurt either.

When remodeling your apartment, Damon suggests considering small swaps instead of big additions to keep your space from feeling cluttered. Lay the foundation with earthy neutrals – browns, rust tones, greens and creams – and accent with pale colors, such as pinks or dusty blues. Aim for antique-inspired furniture such as a dark stained wood coffee table or tapered dining chairs in a cheerful light blue or green, then incorporate cozy patterns like gingham or florals throughout your space. Hand towels, tablecloths, blankets and throw pillows are easy ways to incorporate rustic prints.

Damon also suggests replacing sleek, modern decor with vintage-inspired pieces. Swap your modern art for country landscapes, your plain shade for a lace or scalloped edge shade. Natural elements, whether it’s a straw or rattan tray or a bouquet of fresh wildflowers, can also impact the rustic feel of a room, Damon says.

Feel stressed? From enhancing natural light to decorating with soothing hues, there are plenty of ways to create a sense of serenity at home.

Our interior spaces can have a fundamental effect on how we feel. According to research by Magnet Kitchens, over 80% of Britons believe paint colors can have a positive effect on our mood and well-being, while over a third say pastel colors are most likely to evoke happy feelings.

“The importance of our homes being a haven of relaxation continues to grow, and color psychology plays a huge role in this,” said Tobie Lewis, Senior Brand Manager at Valspar Paint. Beautiful home UK. “Colors such as greens, blues and hazy grays are ideal for creating a destimulating environment to combat stress and enhance relaxation. Applying the right color combinations in the appropriate room will help design the most effective palettes. for soothing and stimulating interiors.

Whether it’s your bedroom or your living room, keep reading for everything you need to know about soothing all the senses at home…

1

Incorporate soothing blue

Blue instills peace, tranquility, calm and serenity, while helping to reduce the pangs of anxiety. According to previous research by B&Q, blue is a natural healer that can soothe us, improve our well-being and, in some cases, even lower our blood pressure. If you are not currently renovating, we recommend painting your kitchen cabinets to enhance the ambiance of your room. You will not regret it.

Spring is the perfect time to transform your home into a calming, stress-free sanctuary. You do not know where to start ? Transform your home with neutral hues, Scandinavian-style furniture and light linen fabrics.

Warm and comforting, pink is often associated with a calming effect on people. No longer just for girls’ bedrooms, grown-up pink can look very stylish when used around the home. We love how warm and inviting it looks in this mudroom (left), used on both the cabinets and the paneled wall.

“Small wallpaper designs are often the most effective in soothing interiors, such as pretty, understated flowers,” says Patrick O’Donnell of Farrow & Ball. “Try to avoid anything that’s too fussy or busy — when it comes to palette, think soft grays, neutrals, dusty pinks or pale greens.”

5

Organize your office space

Wondering how to create a calm and productive office space? If you’re lucky enough to have your own office (or a work area in another room), keep it clean, uncluttered, and free from distractions. A desk with drawers will give you a useful place to pop up papers and pens, while a well-lit room will help you focus on busy days.

When it comes to soothing paint colors, go for an off-white. It is an excellent natural shade to inspire spirits.

Bringing the feel of a five-star spa to your own bathroom isn’t always easy. Natural materials can improve your well-being and create a calm atmosphere, so we recommend choosing earthy shades or terracotta shades on your walls. You can add color through accessories or keep things natural with plants, foliage and wooden elements.

7

Combine lights with darkness

Color blocking walls with paint are a great way to add drama and punch to your space. Whites can be a go-to when creating a calming space, but a two-toned approach can work just as well to keep things relaxed. Tip: You will need a steady hand and some tape.

8

Try wallpaper in the kitchen

Kitchens are the center of the home and often the center of family life, making them great places to take a design risk. Need inspiration? Featuring a tranquil blue background with pops of soft yellow and sugary pink, this jaw-dropping wallpaper from Graham & Brown (left) looks like a piece of art and is sure to keep anyone calm, even on mornings when the whole house is running. late.

9

Keep it classic with white

Versatile and timeless, the best white paint colors stand on their own as a design element. We all love dabbling in dark tones (just scroll through Instagram to see it), but a crisp white scheme can do wonders when it comes to designing a calming space. And breathe…

“Because white brings light, it can elevate mood and bring an element of serenity if we’re over-stimulated,” says Lee Chambers, color psychologist and founder of Essentialise. “It can also really open up a space both physically and in our minds.”

Pictured: ‘Romney Wool’ by Dulux Heritage

Whether you’re embarking on a full renovation project or simply updating a tired room with accessories, let nature take over. Being outdoors, or even viewing nature scenes, reduces anger, fear, and stress and increases pleasant feelings, making it a great home base.

“As we enter spring with its cool mornings and sunny days, keep a calming neutral palette in the home,” says Paula Taylor, trend expert at Graham & Brown.

“The latest trend in warm baked colors fits perfectly into this context, as we find that rich, inviting earthy hues work perfectly with contemporary gray hues or for a more tranquil timeless appeal with clay and pastel neutrals. putty.”

11

Keep your kitchen bright

Keeping calm in the kitchen is essential (testing recipes can be a stressful affair), so you’ll want to keep it bright, light and functional. Green may be the hottest kitchen hue of the year, but you can never go wrong with a soft, pale gray. Classic Shaker lines – like the Westbourne kitchen from the House Beautiful range at Homebase – are key to a clean, clutter-free look.

Pictured: Westbourne in ‘Cobble’ from the House Beautiful at Homebase range

Green works in almost any room in your home. “Deep greens like the Bancha help to create a symbiosis between indoors and outdoors, especially if you are lucky enough to have a view of nature,” explains Patrick.

Pictured: Walls painted in ‘Bancha’ by Farrow & Ball, £56 for 2.5L of modern emulsion

13

Opt for white furniture

As much as we love a colorful room, there is one color palette that will never go out of style: creamy whites. Once you’ve painted your walls a refreshing splash of white, complete the look by choosing a bouclé sofa. Famous for its plush, teddy bear-like appearance, there really is nothing more comforting and cozy.

Pictured: Walls painted in ‘Silent White – Pale’ by Little Greene

Our lives are hectic and hectic, so it’s important to make sure our homes are as calming as possible. If you’re lucky enough to be planning a kitchen remodel, go for a rustic scheme: think open wood shelving, industrial touches, tile floors, and shaker-style cabinetry.

Pictured: Little Greene painting in ‘Flint 236’

It pays to seek out the light, especially when choosing the right color scheme for your room.

Patrick explains, “When creating a calming sanctuary, the best place to start is to determine the direction of light entering each room. For example, in east-facing rooms, embracing cooler evening light with light blues and greens can have a beautifully soft and soothing effect.

Pictured: Walls painted in ‘Prawns in a Pot’ by Farrow & Ball, £52 for 2.5L Estate Emulsion

Whether it’s the kitchen or the living room, a cluttered room can send things spiraling out of control. When creating a calming living space, keep shelves, sideboards, and table surfaces clutter-free. We recommend picking up baskets of seagrass to store magazines or blankets, and suggest putting anything you don’t need in a closet.

Pictured: White Oiled Crown Hewn Oak Fronts, from £1,868 for a small kitchen from Custom Fronts.

17

Bring calm to your garden

And finally, don’t forget your outdoor space. Any garden, big or small, can be transformed into a haven in time for summer. Bring in the calm with layered outdoor rugs, plush outdoor throw pillows and stark white sofas (if you don’t mind the occasional fingerprint or two). Pour yourself a tasty drink and let the cares of the day melt away…

Innovative tech-inspired interior design ideas

Just like smartphone technologies have been around for years and are constantly developing and improving. Home technology products also use computers and other futuristic gadgets to perform a variety of automated tasks that are usually focused on a single goal, making our lives easier. This trend has accelerated further in the wake of the pandemic, where homebuyers are now looking for smarter technologies such as touchless features, home automation and apps that reduce the number of high touch points in homes.

Smart faucets: Equipped with features like temperature gauges and efficiency sensors, smart faucets are slowly making their way into homes. They make it easier for people to pay attention to the amount of water used in their homes, and it’s possible to design faucets that can save up to 15,000 gallons of water per unit per year. A critical resource such as water can thus be conserved. Using this technology also saves energy and since there is no need to touch valves, smart faucets are hygienic and contamination-free.

Wireless sensors for doors and windows: These are high-tech devices used to monitor doors and windows that can provide perfect security for homes and offices. It is a cost-effective security system that alerts owners to suspicious activity. It can be easily synced using smartphone apps and can help people keep track of their home security throughout the day.

Smart air purifiers: With increasing levels of indoor pollution in our cities, air purifiers have become a staple for homes. The importance of breathing fresh, clean air has never been greater. A good air purifier can reduce coughing, irritated eyes, sneezing, headaches, and other symptoms caused by tiny pollutants floating around in indoor spaces. Through these filters, airborne toxins are removed, especially those that are known to cause significant health issues.

Smart locks for the home: Smart locks can be keyed or keyless, allowing the deadbolt to be engaged by code or by key. The new technology also provides tools such as burglary protection, requiring a person to enter random numbers before entering the code, automatically locking the door after 30 seconds, and alerting security systems to intruders.

Smart lighting: The growth of smart city projects and the development of smart buildings are driving the adoption of smart lighting, thereby driving the growth of the market. Consumers are now looking for features such as dimming, color changing and mood settings in their lighting systems. Google Home and Alexa have taken advantage of IoT ecosystems to create products that can be controlled via voice assistants.

With the spread of smart devices and affordable internet connections, the demand for home automation is about to increase. The use of technology will therefore further revolutionize the way we live. Home appliances today offer smart, connected and energy-efficient features that improve the lifestyle of customers. Smart Home systems have seen massive growth and adoption globally over the past 2-3 years, and now Indian consumers are embracing the Smart Home revolution as well.

Temperatures have soared in this scorching summer where the exhaustion due to it manifests itself naturally. The only place humble enough in this difficult time is your home. Although the conditions outside may make it difficult for you, your home provides you with the comfort and solace you so desperately need. Therefore, spruce up the look of your home and turn your home into a calming space by making small changes here and there. Here are some ways to prepare your home for the summer season.

Declutter!

Get away with things you don’t need during the summer season. Store things like jackets, sweaters, blankets and rugs that are only useful during winters. By doing this, you will be able to create more space inside your apartment.

Get away with harsh lights

Block sunlight by installing black panes. If that’s not a feasible option, add curtains in dark colors that will block out as much sunlight as possible. It is advisable to add curtains in summer-friendly materials such as cotton and linen.

Opt for natural fabrics

Say goodbye temporarily to materials like satin, silk, and polyester sheets, and cotton sheets and blankets instead. Also, be sure to thin out your bed during the summer. Put away extra pillows and thick sheets. Natural fabrics like cotton are breathable and also have insulating properties. You will also help the environment if you use natural materials instead of synthetic materials.

Add more greenery indoors

Plants act as natural air conditioners and help maintain the temperature indoors. Adding more plants to your home will allow for better air circulation. Plants also purify your house, so you can breathe fresh air inside your house.

We all want our homes to look good like in a picture, but not all of us can afford to buy fancy furniture or decor items that we see on Instagram.

Even when we can, it is quite difficult to sort everything at once.

So while you’re at it, here are some DIY ideas to make your home look like the magazines.

Trendy macrame wall hanging

Macrame is a skill you can learn and master quickly. It’s all about nodes – pretty easy to get started and figure out, then you can level up and plan your own designs over time.

Make your macrame wall hanging and you can be the proud artist of a solo piece of art on display!

Macrame wall hangings can be used to fill blank walls.

Grab those glass jars you’ve been saving for the kabadi walaclean them up and fill them with potting soil and plant a succulent or low-maintenance flower.

Now use a strong rope to create macrame hangers and install them.

Once each of the jars is well tied, hang them on your balcony or on the curtain rod in your living room.

It’s a very simple idea, but many get overwhelmed when choosing images and end up with an overdone gallery wall.

You need a bit of planning – pick a theme, don’t just pick pictures at random, mark the spots on your wall, arrange the pictures in different orders on the floor to see which one looks best, and hang it up. them in that order.

These old and faded terra cotta planters don’t look very appealing in an otherwise upscale room.

There is no need to constantly change your planters, you can simply clean and paint them.

Use acrylic paint, lay down a base color to paint the whole body, then do stripes, dots or stars. You can also add glitter!

Just let your creative side take over.

Get some Polaroid prints of your favorite moments in life and arrange them in an order that works for you.

Now take a long string of lights and install it to form a cascading effect.

Take small clips and hang the photos on the string, try to avoid a bulb directly touching the photo as it may be messed up.

You can always change the images.

ICYMI, Pantone has named the shade of Very Peri purple its color of the year 2022. Cool cool. But I woke up one day this week and realized that every new product, from fashion to shoes and kitchen utensils, was actually… green.

Even this week, Le Creuset and Our Place announced new colors for their cookware palettes, and they were both vibrant and bold shades of green. The shades are called Olive and Acid respectively, and I just need to bury my house in both.

Look, I’m not saying Pantone got it wrong (I’m not do not say that either), but various shades of green are clearly having a major moment this year.

From new tech to bridesmaid dresses at almost every event this year, it’s all green, green, green. And don’t even get me started on green home decor, because every major retailer is dropping new items left and right. As someone who won’t buy something unless it’s green, I’m obviously thrilled.

From sheets to luggage and even a computer, shop 18 of my favorite green essentials below to add that airy, on-trend color to your life.
